Competitor Signups, Winners & Benefits

 

Qualifier Slots And Winners

  • 20 slots for anyone from anywhere in the country to sign up at $15/entry, or at whatever entry price the Qualifier host sets
    • The previous year’s local champion will be able to sign-up with a promo code for free entry, to be provided by the Qualifier host
    • If the previous year’s local champion would like to compete, s/he must still sign up before all slots are filled. If the 20 slots are already filled and the champ attempts to sign up, s/he will not be able to compete.
  • The top 2 Qualifier winners will move on to a designated Semifinal
    • Both winners receive airfare/ground travel expenses paid by the organizer based on budget availability
    • 1st place winners earn free entry to Semifinals
    • 2nd place winners earn a discounted entry to Semifinals at $5/entry
    • Each 1st place Qualifier winner earns free entry to one Qualifier next year
    • If a competitor has qualified for Semifinals and has also signed up for the Semifinal city, USAG will remove their duplicate signup spot and announce an opening on the USAG blog/FB for anyone to claim on a first come/first serve basis
    • If a Qualifier winner chooses not to attend Semifinals, their vacancy will be offered to the next highest scoring competitor from their Qualifier.  
  • In addition to 2 Qualifier winners, 1 Qualifier host may also move on to compete at the Semifinals
    • The Qualifier host earns free entry to Semifinals
    • If the Qualifier is co-hosted by one or more organizers, the organizers must choose one person to move on. Only one host per Qualifier may move on to the Semifinals.
    • If the Qualifier host or co-organizers choose NOT to compete in the Semifinals, the Qualifier host slot will be forfeit and then added to the local Semifinal signups. If local slots had previously been full, USAG will announce an open slot on a first come-first serve basis.
    • The Qualifier host may NOT offer their spot to other competitors  

    Tie Breaker Rules

    • In the event of a tie for 1st, there will be an air-off to determine the overall winner. This determines who receives the picking order advantage at the Semifinal, as well as the appropriate travel stipend as determined by the Qualifier organizer.
    • In the event of a tie for 2nd, there will be an air-off to determine the 2nd place winner.
    • No qualifier will send more than 2 competitors to the Semifinals

 

Semifinals Slots And Winners

  • Each Semifinal will have no more than 25 competitors
  • No more than 5 Qualifiers will route into a Semifinal to prevent overcrowding
  • Up to 10 slots reserved for competitors who have qualified from other cities
  • Up to 5 slots reserved for organizers of officially licensed or USAG operated Qualifiers (1 organizer per Qualifier city)
    • Organizers earn free entry to Semifinals
  • Up to 15 slots reserved for other competitors to sign up at $20/entry
    • Competitors may only sign up for one Semifinal
    • Number of slots available based on the number of Qualifier Winners and Organizers that have accepted their earned Semifinal slot
  • There will be no wildcards from the audience at the Semifinals level
  • The top 3 Semifinal winners will move onto the National Finals
    • All winners receive airfare/ground travel expenses to be paid by USAG based on budget availability (Tiered on a 1st-3rd basis as needed)
    • All winners receive free entry to Nationals
    • Each 1st place Semifinal winner earns free entry to one Semifinal next year
    • If a Semifinal winner chooses not to attend Finals, their vacancy will be offered to the next highest scoring competitor from their Semifinal.
  • Tie Breaker Rules
    • In the event of a tie for 1st, there will be an air-off to determine the overall winner. This determines who receives the free entry to the next year Semifinal, as well as the appropriate travel stipend as determined by USAG.
    • In the event of a two-way tie for 2nd, both competitors will qualify for Nationals and will split the stipend provided by USAG
    • In the event of a tie between 3 or more people for 2nd, there will be an air-off to determine the 2nd and 3rd place winners.
    • In the event of a tie for 3rd, there will be an air-off to determine the 3rd place winner.
    • No Semifinal will send more than 3 competitors to the FInals

 

Dark Horse Slots and Winners

  • Up to 25 Dark Horse slots will be available, to be filled by competitors selected by the USAG staff.
  • Dark Horse registration must be completed 2 weeks prior to the Dark Horse show
    • If an invited Dark Horse competitor(s) does not sign up by the deadline, the spot will be offered to other air guitarists as selected by the USAG staff.
  • The top Dark Horse competitors will move onto the National Finals (Total Dark Horse winners TBD)
    • No stipends will be given to the winners
    • All winners receive free entry to Nationals
    • If a Dark Horse winner chooses not to attend Finals, their vacancy will be offered to the next highest scoring competitor from the Dark Horse
  • Tie Breaker Rules (Numbers used for example. Total Dark Horse winners TBD)
    • In the event of a tie for 1st-4th, there will be no air-off and competitor order for the National Finals will be settled the day of the show
    • In the event of a tie for 5th, there will be an air-off to determine the 5th place winner
    • The Dark Horse will not send more than 5 competitors to the Finals

 

Nationals Slots and Winner

  • Each Semifinal will send 3 competitors to the National Finals, for a total of 18 competitors
  • An additional number of competitors will be from the Dark Horse winners (Total Dark Horse winners TBD)
  • The current National Champion will have the option of defending their title
    • If the current champ is also the current World Champ, then they will not compete
  • The 1st place winner will advance to the Air Guitar World Championships in Oulu, Finland
    • Airfare and 2 nights lodging to be paid by USAG
  • Tie Breaker Rules
    • In the event of a tie for 1st, there will be an air-off to determine the overall winner
